This message is to inform members of some tree work that is due to happen in Bushy Park.
The park team will be undertaking work on a couple of projects from the 2 December both on Ash Walk and in the Woodland Gardens.
Unfortunately, some of the sycamore trees on Ash Walk are not in the best health, some are dead, and the others are declining. These are self-set trees meaning they were not planted there intentionally, and being in this location has not allowed them to thrive.
The team will be replanting this area in the spring with more appropriate species to help the parkland thrive and increase biodiversity.
In the Woodland Gardens, the team are looking forward to planting a new orchard of fruit trees that will be more suited to this location. They are preparing the ground in December which will include the removal of five declining Crab Apple trees and three conifers. The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers have donated a number of trees for the Woodland Gardens. In spring there will be a planting day and photo opportunity about which The Royal Parks will share details in due course.
The new trees planted in the spring will be better suited to the area and thrive in the lighter space. Some new conifer trees have already been replanted in a different area of the Woodland Gardens where they are more likely to do well.
In order to carry out both of these bits of work safely there will be short term path closures in place. These will be signposted, and alternative routes will be easily accessible. This work is due to be completed by the 13 December at the latest.
